One of the fastest-growing neighborhoods in the Garden State recently welcomed a new art-forward hotel that includes a bistro and bar on the second floor complete with an outdoor terrace.

Earlier this month, dignitaries held a ribbon-cutting to officially announce the opening of Canopy by Hilton Jersey City Arts District. Our sneak peek from July showcased parts of the 211-room hotel, which is jointly owned by Jersey City-based Panepinto Properties, The KABR Group LLC, Three Wall Capital LLC, and Greentree Construction.

The facility, at 159 Morgan Street, marks the first outpost of Hilton’s upstart Canopy brand in the New York City Metropolitan Area. The hotel leans into its location within the Powerhouse Arts District through industrially-theme murals by Ricardo Roig and Jenna Morello and with their Canopy Central Art Studios, an environment that gives local artists a place to create new works and provides guests an opportunity to witness the creative process.

Art Curator Stefania Panepinto has filled the hotel’s corridors with original acrylic paintings by Candy Le Sueur and hand-made cyanotype prints by Tatsuro Nishimura. Guest rooms feature limited edition silkscreen prints by Gary Lichtenstein that are inspired by the nearby Dixon Mills Pencil Factory.

“We are extremely proud of the art on display at the hotel,” says Panepinto. “Not only are the pieces created by locals but they each tell the story of Jersey City in their own unique manner.”

The local community is also showcased through Canopy Central Bar & Bistro, which opens for daily dinner and drink service at 4 p.m. Featuring an indoor bar, table seating, and an outdoor garden terrace, the eatery serves an international tapas menu.

The bistro’s cocktail program was created by Proprietors LLC, the consultancy company behind Manhattan’s well-known Death & Co. Guests at the hotel can enjoy a complimentary evening tasting of locally distilled and hand-crafted spirits, which includes libations from Corgi Spirits, Misunderstood Whiskey, Hoboken Brewing Company and Jersey City’s own 902 Brewery Company.

Wines from New Jersey vineyards, various draft beers, and a menu of non-alcoholic wellness cocktails round out the menu at the bistro, which closes at 11 p.m.
