A new technology-driven restaurant serving global comfort food should be making its debut later this year inside one of Washington Boulevard’s largest office buildings.

Construction work has been ongoing on the ground floor of 525 Washington Boulevard for months and signage recently went up signaling a new business is coming soon. An automat is typically considered a fast food restaurant where simple foods are served by vending machines, but the upcoming Automat Kitchen has loftier goals and claims to be “The restaurant, reinvented.”

A job posting for Automat Kitchen says that their eatery will be “what a restaurant would look like if restaurants were invented today.” It will be utilizing cutting-edge foodservice technology that includes a patented ordering and pick-up system that delivers items to customers through a state-of-the-art wall of lockable nooks.

But Automat Kitchen doesn’t intend on being a gimmick, as their foods will feature local ingredients and they’ll make every customer’s meal to order.

The restaurant will sport a chef-designed menu that puts a contemporary twist on classic dishes, many of which are inspired by comfort foods from around the globe.

Automat Kitchen says their food will offer a range of bold flavors that cater to all dietary restrictions and preferences, but they have yet to release a menu.

A newly-launched website showed up last week and an Instagram account at the handle @automat_kitchen has been created for Automat Kitchen, who has targeted fall 2019 as their timeframe for opening.
