The team behind Corto has brought their latest endeavor to Bergen-Lafayette as The Roxy has added a new dining option to the emerging area just west of Liberty State Park.
Jersey Digs broke the news on the endeavor over a year ago and news of the restaurant’s name emerged earlier this year. The new eatery is situated at 66 Monitor Street on the ground floor of an adaptively reused and expanded former warehouse that is now called Starling.
The Roxy comes from the team behind Corto, an Italian restaurant in The Heights that has earned rave reviews since opening in 2018. The existing partnership of Matt Moschella and Drew Buzzio brought Justin Buzzio on board for their latest project, whose credits include runs at acclaimed restaurants like New York’s Jean-Georges.
The new sit-down restaurant is being helmed by Chef Rachel Dos Santos, who also ran the kitchen at Corto. Striving for simple yet inspired cocktails and cuisine, The Roxy sports an Art Deco-inspired dining room with exposed ductwork that pays homage to the property’s industrial past.
Starters at the Roxy include an octopus dish with lentils, smoked pimento, and merguez sausage or a prosciutto di parma with tamarind mustard. Highlights from the Mediterranean-inspired entree menu include a cavatelli with local mushrooms, garlic, and white miso.
Unlike the BYOB situation at Corto, The Roxy sports a full bar that includes seating. Some of their more unique drinks include a spring pea mojito or a chamomile-tinged spin on an old fashioned.
The Roxy is currently taking reservations through their website and is open for dinner service daily starting at 4 p.m. expect on Mondays. The restaurant can be followed on Instagram at the handle @theroxy_jc.
