One of the best restaurants in The Heights will be expanding their Jersey City footprint later this year as a new endeavor called The Roxy is under construction in a new development.

Jersey Digs was first to report on the upcoming restaurant last March. A company called Buzzella LLC made an application to transfer a dormant liquor license to retail space at 66 Monitor Street, the site of an adaptive reuse project from Alpine Residential and Fields Grade.

The development first emerged in 2021 and gained approval the following year. The work has partially demolished but mostly preserved an existing warehouse while adding a vertical expansion that rises 78 feet.

Two commercial storefronts that total 3,040 square feet are included in the plan, one of which will be taken by The Roxy. Few other details have emerged on the restaurant other than the name and libations, but the team behind Corto have built a great reputation for themselves since opening in 2018.

That BYOB Italian eatery, situated at 507 Palisade Avenue, is known for their cozy space and rotating menu. The business easily made our Best Restaurants in Jersey City list and The Roxy looks to continue that tradition.

The six-story rental development is now called Starling and is set to feature 39 studio to three-bedroom residences along with a curated collection of artwork and inspired amenities. Designed by GRT Architects, the project aims to artfully fuse modern aesthetics with historic charm.

“Starling caters to those desiring a more intimate living experience while still enjoying a robust suite of amenities and all that Bergen-Lafayette has to offer,” said William Rosato, Managing Partner of Alpine Residential. “The property is also infused with the local culture, displaying an art collection that captures the imaginative spirit found on the streets of Jersey City.”

The restored exterior is joined inside by a dramatic double-height lobby that features reclaimed trusses and wood finishes salvaged from its original structure.

While initial residential occupancy at Starling is slated for February 2024, an estimated opening timeline for The Roxy has not been announced.
