The winds of change continue to blow along the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza in Downtown Jersey City as a new business, Taco Drive, is opening just months after another closed.
Taco Drive is an eatery that promises “a new way to eat tacos,” and is renovating space at 195 Newark Avenue. The restaurant is taking over the address after a relatively short run from previous tenant Rig A Tony’s, and they have already created an Instagram account at the handle @taco.drive.
Teaser posts from the account show a décor that includes race-car themes and a few shots of tacos, guacamole, and other probable dishes. The Instagram account JC Families is reporting that Taco Drive will serve a variety of customizable tacos in addition to Mexican dishes like quesadillas and burritos.
Taco Drive has set up a website although hours of operation and an opening date have not yet been announced. The location has ample room in front of their storefront for outdoor seating during the summer months when renovations to the pedestrian plaza should be finished.
The restaurant will join an admittedly crowded taco scene that encompasses the neighboring blocks, as Taqueria, Tacoria, El Ranchero Taqueria, Mexico City Taqueria, Gringo’s, and Tacos Victoria on 7th Street are all within quick walking distance. Sol Azteca, Orale, and the recently opened Golden Cicada Baja Beergarden are also nearby, as is the upcoming Tacombi outpost that is coming to the Warren at Bay development.
