The ownership behind one of the more prominent eateries along the Jersey side of the Hudson River will be bringing a new Mediterranean restaurant to Jersey City complete with golf simulator suites.
A new business dubbed Solaz Restaurant and Full Swing Golf Suites is slated to take over a large space in the Newport neighborhood at 25 River Drive. The ground floor of the property has had a bit of a troubled history, remaining vacant for almost five years before the now-shuttered Newport Eats took over for a short run.
Solaz will occupy 10,640 square feet of space and will be operated by Alexander Duran, chief executive officer of Duran Entities. Duran is perhaps best known for the Son Cubano Restaurant and Bar Lounge in West New York along with the Ventanas Restaurant and Lounge in Fort Lee, partnering with celebrity chef David Burke on both ventures.
“Newport continues to be a prime destination for shopping, dining and entertainment in one of the nation’s most successful master planned communities,” said Ray Kawas, Director of Commercial Leasing for LeFrak when announcing the deal. “We pride ourselves on bringing national, regional and local businesses into our retail spaces, as our true downtown experience wouldn’t be the same without a great mix of both established and emerging concepts.”
Solaz Restaurant and Full Swing Golf Suites will boast a full bar and hopes to be up and running sometime next year. The business is set to arrive at a busy time for Newport, as several new restaurants, including Blue Anchor Bar + Kitchen, are in the pipeline for the neighborhood.
Solaz is officially in the race to become Jersey City’s first dining spot with golf simulators. Per our reporting from last year, an outpost of the Topgolf brand is slated to be opening inside the Harborside property in Exchange Place over the coming years.
