A company known for their meal delivery service will be relocating from their Bergen-Lafayette digs to one of the city’s newest high-rises, a move they hope will help them serve a larger clientele with an expanded version of their business.

Cavany Foods, a full-service meal preparation company offering fresh, organic food delivered directly to customers, has signed a lease for a 1,750 square-foot space at 235 Grand in Downtown Jersey City. The building’s developers, KRE Group and Ironstate Development Company, announced the move last week.

“Cavany Foods is a local business with a loyal following and a high-quality product. We’re delighted to partner with them on their first retail location,” said Jonathan Kushner, president of KRE Group.

The business will turn the ground floor space at the building into a gourmet market offering everything from prepared breakfast, lunch and dinner meals to coffee, desserts and other treats. Cavany Foods will be relocating their existing commercial kitchen along Bergen Avenue for the endeavor, but will still offer home-delivery service through their existing app.

Cavany Foods was founded in 2017 by Venezuela-born chef Alejandro Ferrer and has become a staple at the Grove Street Farmers Market. Serving mostly American-inspired cuisine, the company decided their new neighborhood is the ideal place to support their current business and plan for future growth.

“We decided to open at 235 Grand because it is in an area with a lot of pedestrian traffic, close to the PATH and the downtown commercial district and near our existing customer base,” Chef Ferrer said. Business at Cavany Foods is up 50% since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic according to Ferrer and with more people working from home, the company is currently offering new customers a 20% discount on their first order.

“We are proud to be serving the community during these challenging times and are thankful that we are able to contribute to the health and well-being of our customers in our own way,” Chef Ferrer said.

An exact date for the opening of the market hasn’t been announced.
