The people, parks, and historic buildings around Jersey City's historic downtown area have a very distinct character, and this time of year, a little holiday cheer.

The Journal Square neighborhood of Jersey City, centered on the Journal Square PATH/bus station, is developing an identity as numerous residential towers rise among the old housing stock.

Jersey City regularly ranks as one of the most diverse cities in the US. In honor of this, we decided to visit the India Square subsection of Journal Square for this week’s Weekend Walk.

The Heights neighborhood in Jersey City has retained its neighborhood feel, with historic homes, tree-lined streets, and art everywhere.

Weekend Walks is our weekend column where we explore the photographic beauty of various neighborhoods through the lenses of history, architecture and commerce. For this weekend’s walk, we headed up to The Heights to take a stroll through Jersey City’s northern most neighborhood.

The neighborhood near the West Side light rail station in Jersey City is growing, but retains some of the charm of yesteryear, with old homes and small businesses.

On Hoboken's west side, away from the busy waterfront, iconic businesses and old brownstones mingle with new high rises.
