One of the largest developments to hit Hamilton Park in decades officially has a new retail tenant and the restaurant entering the space hopes to break ground on construction very soon.
Late last year, KRE’s 485 Marin Boulevard development opened directly across the street from the Newport Mall parking garage. The 18-story, 397-unit building came complete with a public green space and one of the property’s storefronts will house a new eatery named Café Esme — a French word meaning esteemed or beloved.
The endeavor comes from owner Daniela Sarbu, who also founded the nearby World of ABC, The Waldo School in Jersey City. Sarbu tells Jersey Digs that the café just signed a lease and is now in the building department permits review phase. When approved, the café will begin construction at a 710-square-foot space with outdoor seating directly next to the park behind 485 Marin Boulevard.
Regardless of where they end up, patrons at Café Esme can look forward to great drinks featuring Kobrick Coffee Co. beans and what Sarbu says are “the best grandmas pastries.” The eatery will also have a few French sandwich options and aims to flesh out their menu as they get closer to opening. They recently created a Facebook page where locals can track their progress toward opening day.
