A New York City-based restaurant that started as a Taiwanese food truck just opened a location in the Newport Centre mall in Jersey City.
Bao By Kaya opened on Monday, September 16, in the third-floor food court. The 662-square-foot eatery is known for its Gua Bao dish, which consists of steamed buns filled with different types of meat.
The restaurant serves up family recipes and boasts “unique and flavorful Asian cuisine.”
Items on the menu include open-faced baos, which are buns wrapped around ingredients such as braised oven pork belly, Peking duck, red curry chicken, shrimp, fried tofu, scallion, cucumber, carrots, sauces, and sesame seeds.
They also offer a variety of rice platters and side dishes like veggie spring rolls and sesame noodles. To drink, they serve various bubble tea, green teas, and Taiwanese Apple Sidra.
Bao by Kaya is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Newport Centre mall is located at 30 Mall Drive, adjacent to the Newport PATH and light rail stations. It has a covered garage with paid parking for customers.
