The team behind two of the best restaurants in Jersey City will be heading west for their latest venture as the pair behind DOMODOMO will be opening a new spot called BRBQ in Journal Square.

For those uninitiated, DOMODOMO launched inside Jersey City Urby back in 2019, bringing their Bib Gourmand reputation with them. The omakase-style sushi spot had operated in Manhattan for years before crossing the Hudson River.

Co-owners Jae Park and Brian Kim took such a liking to Jersey City that they opened ONDO along the waterfront just a few short years later. The pair are slated to bring their next venture to the ground floor of Journal Square Urby, hoping to bring a proper sit-down restaurant to the area.

BRBQ will sport both a cafe and lounge and serve brunch and dinner, according to details released by the developer behind the project. The space will have a wood-fired grill at the bar that will allow guests to observe their meals being prepared, similar to the experience at the group’s other eateries.

In terms of the menu, BRBQ will serve dishes with a touch of fire and Asian influence with options including galbi steak and mochi waffles. Renderings released of the space show a laid back and modern design with warm wood accents.

Journal Square Urby, located at 532 Summit Avenue, recently unveiled a 46,000-square-foot mural on the side of the building and has begun leasing its residential units. Despite the building’s launch, an opening date for BRBQ has not been announced.
