An independent dessert café is slated to launch their second location inside a storefront just a quick walk from the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza.
Earlier this year, Union City-based Two Crepes announced they would be expanding into Downtown Jersey City. The Park Avenue café, founded in 2018 by a young West New York couple named Julian and Lina, initially started out as a catering company whose launch stemmed from career frustrations.
“After tiring of our waiter and babysitter jobs, we decided to take the leap of faith and open our own business,” Julian says. “My wife came up with idea of crepes since there weren’t any in the Union City area and many cultures have their own take and twist on them, so we wanted to build a brand as inclusive as crepes themselves.”
After catering more than 450 events for companies like Apple, Nike, and The New York Times, Julian and Lina are now bringing their Two Crepes concept to 276 First Street. The revamp of the space was designed by Evan Santiago from Hybrid Coffee, who has created a vibe that Julian calls very modern but really cozy.
The menu at Two Crepes includes savory breakfast choices like an Italiana, which boasts mozzarella, tomatoes, pesto, balsamic glaze, and pepperoni. The café’s spin on a traditional breakfast crepe sports egg, black forest ham, a three-cheese blend, and kimchi aioli.
A few of the restaurant’s sweet crepes are truly decedent, with one dubbed Chocolate Coma standing out. It consists of brownies, Oreos, and dark chocolate, while their playfully named Banana Montana includes sliced bananas, Nutella, and chocolate. Their MarshmellowLand is essentially a s’more in crepe form made up of melted marshmallows, graham cracker crumbs, and chocolate syrup.
Mini waffles and ice cream will also available at Two Crepes, which is set to feature a juice bar, coffee, espresso, and tea options to round out the experience. The café’s Jersey City location will have outside seating for approximately 16 people when they launch and customers will be able to order via online platforms for delivery hopefully by next week.
The launch of Two Crepes is set for August 26 at 4 p.m., with a ribbon cutting by the mayor or a representative of his office in the cards. Their soft hours will run from 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Thursday to Sunday initially, but they aim to be open every day from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. once they have a bigger staff.
