A restaurant that recently celebrated one year in business has added beds of vegetables to their roof that provide The Table with fresh ingredients for their new American fare.

Situated at 400 Claremont Avenue inside the 3 Acres complex, The Table’s modern space opened last summer. Chef Daniel Latham, formally of Latham House in Downtown, moved over to the sprawling building following a successful seven-year run on Marin Boulevard.

Latham’s new restaurant sits across the street from the West Side Avenue stop on the Hudson Bergen Light Rail in an emerging neighborhood. The sizable space offers both indoor and outdoor dining with expansive glass-clad garage-style doors, but an addition to the rooftop at 3 Acres sets this Jersey City restaurant apart from the rest.

Chef Latham was kind enough to give Jersey Digs a tour of The Table’s expanding rooftop garden, which is currently growing kale, basil, squash, and other varieties of veggies. The summer season has proven productive, as their self-grown produce is supplementing their shipments from farmers.

Several of the items being grown on the roof have inspired dishes at The Table’s seasonally rotating menu. Their Buffalo-style crispy vegetables and shrimp appetizer features some of the rooftop squash and broccoli alongside blue cheese dressing and hot sauce, while their summer risotto with grilled salmon leans heavy on the seasonal veggies.

Designed as an extension of the resort-style living space, The Table boasts a full bar with unique cocktails like the Notorious F.I.G., which blends vodka, lime, fig, strawberry, ginger, and a warm fig garnish. The drinks rotate seasonally as well, with a Poolside Daiquiri currently on the docket.

The Table also hosts a “social hour” Tuesday through Friday starting at 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. with drink specials that include $10 classic cocktails. Chef Latham’s famous brunch service has also made the move to The Table, as has Latham House’s decadent bread pudding (it’s still just as good).

The Table is closed Mondays, but open for dinner service starting at 4 p.m. brunch menu on both Saturdays and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The restaurant can be followed on Instagram at the handle @thetable_jc.
