The ownership behind two of Jersey City’s best wine purveyors are teaming up for a new wine bar and restaurant as The Alps will be making its debut in The Heights.
The new spot, situated at 351 Palisade venue, is slated to soft open on February 8. The eatery will have weekend service only for the remainder of the month, with additional days of business set to roll out in March.
Jersey Digs broke the news about the upcoming restaurant last spring. The ownership group behind The Alps includes Chris Leo of Riverview Wine, who opened the boutique wine shop with his wife Laura Marchetti three years ago.
Also having a stake in the restaurant are the folks behind Pet Shop Wine Bar, which opened in 2016 along a prominent Downtown stretch of Newark Avenue.
The Alps takes their moniker from a now-defunct eatery also called The Alps that once stood on Bergen Avenue in McGinley Square at 725 Bergen Avenue. The previous incarnation served food to the community for decades and was once even reviewed by the New York Times back in 1975.
The new take on The Alps will sport a bar featuring natural and organic wines and a fully vegetarian menu. Chris Leo told Jersey Digs last year that the restaurant is hoping for a low-key vibe. Exact dishes and drinks have not been released just yet and the restaurant lacks any social media presence, but that might be part of the point according to one of the owners. Those curious about The Alps will just have to stop by and see for themselves.
