Fresh off the news that New York City’s Mango Mango will be bringing their Hong Kong-style desserts to the Mile Square City, Jersey Digs has learned that another bakery specializing in Asian-European fusion bread will be setting up shop along Hoboken’s main street.

SunMerry Bakery was founded in Taiwan back in 1986 and initially came to the United States via six locations in California. The company has opened two New Jersey locations in Fort Lee and Edison within the last few years and their third Garden State outpost will be inside 1,150 square feet of space at 519 Washington Street.

Variety reigns supreme at SunMerry, as the bakery features over 80 different kinds of bread. A few types that you won’t find in most bakeries include a sweet potato French bread, a black sesame walnut bread, and several different varieties of bolo, which is a flat, circular bread that’s shaped like a cake.

The bakery includes some outside-the-box savory options that range from a BBQ pork chashu bolo bun to a hot dog danish or a sea salt tofu roll. But the real star of SunMerry is the sweets and they include diverse offerings like a Nutella cookie bun, a green tea croissant, pineapple tarts, a coffee brioche, curry or taro red bean donuts, and a matcha pumpkin danish. Other highlights include several Japanese puddings and Daifuku, which is an Asian-style confection made up of round mochi that’s stuffed with sweet fillings.

Cakes at SunMerry range from more traditional options like black forest or tiramisu to varieties like mango mousse, golden cheese, strawberry cream, matcha chocolate, or taro milk cake. A drink menu featuring Asian-influenced coffees, smoothies, and bubble tea choices rounds out the menu.

Work has been ongoing at the Washington Street property for several months, but SunMerry just recently announced that they are hiring for their Hoboken store. They are seeking bakers, cake decorators, and operating staff for the location and those interested can submit their resumes to [email protected] or call them directly at 201-257-7010.

While SunMerry has not responded to our inquiry as to when their latest location might open, the company can be followed on Instagram at the handle @sunmerryus.
