Jeff Jordan Architects has completed a string of new projects in Jersey City ranging from renovations to brand new construction. This past year, the team won two Honor Awards from the New Jersey Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. One for their design of the Liberty Pedestrian Bridge and the other for a mid-century modern renovation in Newburgh.
Here’s a look at some of our favorite Jersey City projects from Jeff Jordan Architects.
Cole Street Renovation
This 1800’s townhouse in downtown Jersey City needed a massive face-lift and an internal overhaul after over a century of occupation. The team resurrected the home’s facade using historic tax photographs, expertise of the Jersey City Historic Preservation staff and very skilled carpenters. Combined, they were able to recreate the original siding and trim elements.
Inside, however, they focused on modernization and opening up the space. Large windows were installed along the back of the building to brighten up the interior as well.

Hamilton Park Renovation
This unusually narrow row house near Hamilton Park is only 12 feet wide but needed to fit a family of five. The team designed an addition that transformed an existing office into a new family room with large folding doors.
Originally carved into a series of small rooms, they removed several walls to open up the kitchen, dining, and living spaces. Floor to ceiling, wall to wall glass doors were installed along that back wall overlooking the back patio to enjoy the western sun exposure.

York Street House
This unique, three-family row house is located in the Van Vorst Park historic district. The exterior of the building was designed to match its historic neighbors by using the same materials, window rhythm, and proportions. But the home still maintains the aesthetic integrity of its time. Inside, tall windows allow for plenty of natural light and airflow.
