In what is likely the most-anticipated grocery store opening in Hoboken’s history, Trader Joe’s has finally released its opening date.
The Hoboken store, located on the ground floor of the recently-opened Harlow rental development at 1350 Willow Ave., will officially open on May 19th at 9:00 am with a ceremonial lei cutting. The company has further celebration activities planned throughout the day including food demonstrations and giveaways.
A site visit yesterday showed staff members already stocking the shelves with dry and canned goods.
The store was unanimously approved last year by the city council. A winter 2017 opening was originally targeted but, as these things go, was delayed.
The opening is a major win for Uptown Hoboken, which in recent years has become a hot spot for development. New residents considering the area but turned off by the commute to the PATH may find solace in being walking distance to Trader Joe’s. It will also be a great option for Jersey City Heights residents who currently have less than stellar grocery options but will now be just a short trip from one of America’s favorite grocers.
