A local chain of upscale wine shops is preparing to expand into the Mile Square City.
CoolVines is planning to open a location at 211 Washington Street in Hoboken. Located between 2nd and 3rd Streets, the 700-square-foot space was previously occupied by Washington Liquors. Hoboken Wines, LLC, which will do business as CoolVines Hoboken, has applied to take over the liquor license that had been used by the prior tenant.
Mark Censits, the founder and president of CoolVines, confirmed the news to Jersey Digs and said that the new store is expected to open at some point near the end of 2020.
The company has shifted in recent years from operating in suburban areas of the Garden State to urban ones.
“From the moment we opened the Jersey City store, I had just felt like we had found our market,” said Censits.
CoolVines originated with a wine shop near the Princeton University campus in Mercer County and later opened an outpost in Westfield in Union County, but both locations have since closed. There are currently two CoolVines stores in Jersey City and one in Newark.
