For over 80 years, Goehrig’s Bakery was a community staple for residents of Jersey City Heights, however, due to unknown circumstances, the bakery closed in 2014.
But as they say, ‘when one door closes, another opens’, the Central Avenue SID reports that downtown Jersey City’s Cocoa Bakery will be opening up shop in the space at 475 Central Avenue.
Cocoa Bakery was opened by Nobu Pastry Chef Jessica Isaacs. According to Cocoa’s website, “Chef Isaacs’s work has been featured in Art Culinaire, Cucina Italiana, Pastry Art and Design and she was published most recently in New York Sweets by Alan “Battman” Batt. Jessica’s recipes can also be found in Battman’s The Colors of Dessert and most recently in Battman’s new book Small Things Sweet.”
The downtown bakery offers cookies, cakes, cupcakes, pastries as well as custom-designed wedding cakes.
They Heights is currently having a bakery boom. Last year Dulce De Leche opened on Central Avenue and another downtown bakery, Choc-O-Pain is nearing completion on a Palisade Avenue location.
