Hudson County’s first Whole Foods has been years in the making and will finally be opening their doors in less than a month’s time, as several of the market’s details have been confirmed and a date to start serving the Lincoln Harbor neighborhood has been set.

Construction on the 32,000-square-foot building, developed by Hartz Mountain, broke ground almost two years ago. There has been lots of speculation about what’s taken so long, but we reported earlier this month that Whole Foods had their sights set on July to open their Weehawken store. The company has at long last officially nailed down a grand opening date of July 26, with doors opening at 9 a.m. the day of the launch.

Details of the Weehawken outpost announced by the company include confirmation that the location will be a full-fledged market, ditching the originally planned ‘365’ concept after the brand was discontinued earlier this year. Whole Foods also formally acknowledged that Brooklyn’s Café Grumpy will indeed be opening inside the new location and will serve nitro cold brewed coffee on tap, single origin coffee selections, and seasonal drinks.

In celebration of the new market, opening day customers can enjoy complimentary Balthazar Bakery pastries and coffee from Café Grumpy before the store opens. Additionally, the first 100 customers on opening day will receive a Whole Foods Market reusable canvas tote bag. As a show of good faith to the community, 5% of the store’s net sales on opening day will go toward Weehawken High School’s Culinary Initiative.

The Weehawken Whole Foods will include a produce section, a full-service butcher department featuring meats from local suppliers, and a seafood department with in-house made salmon burgers, crab cakes, and lobster rolls. An in-house bakery offering cookies and cakes includes some vegan and gluten-free selections from local bakeries, while a prepared foods section features hot and cold food bars, a salad bar, soup wells, rotisserie chickens, self-serve square-style pizza, a fresh pasta bar, sushi, and charcuterie offerings.

The official address of the Weehawken Whole Foods is 1400 Waterfront Terrace and the market’s regular hours will run from 7 a.m. – 10 p.m. daily.
