One of the largest consumer goods companies in the world will be calling the Hoboken waterfront their home as Unilever will be moving their North American headquarters to the Mile Square City in the coming months.

In one of the largest Northern New Jersey office leases of the year, Unilever has signed a long-term lease for 111,000 square feet of offices at Waterfront Corporate Center I. The new offices, which will be spread across three full floors, will be situated at 111 River Street. CBRE represented Unilever in the transaction.

SJP Project Solutions, a division of building owner SJP Properties, is serving as the project and construction manager for the space. The company will provide a custom buildout for Unilever’s needs, with plans to have the company relocate from their current Englewood Cliffs space by spring 2025.

Unilever is the world’s sixth-largest consumer goods company and owns many iconic brands, including Ben & Jerry’s, Dove, Hellman’s, Lipton, and more. The company will join a Waterfront Corporate Center tenant roster that includes other major companies such as Walmart, Wiley, and Newell Brands.

“Unilever made a strategic decision to relocate their North American Headquarters to the New Jersey waterfront from Englewood Cliffs to gain a competitive edge in accessing the vast labor pool in New York City and the surrounding metro area while retaining existing talent with easy access to Bergen County,” said Alexander Erdos, Senior Vice President of Leasing and Development at SJP. “Strength of ownership, ability to execute a competitively priced, high-quality tenant buildout and best-in-class operations were significant factors in the company’s decision to relocate to 111 River Street.”

Erdos also cited Hoboken’s transit accessibility and walkability as factors Unilever considered when taking the space. The ground floor of the Waterfront Corporate Center building the company is moving to is also home to several retail businesses including Gregory’s Coffee, The Lola Cocktail Lab + Eatery, Crunch Fitness, FedEx Office, Wicked Wolf Tavern, Chase Bank, and Cresthill Academy,
