One of Jersey City’s skyline-altering projects is hoping to get a new restaurant experience as an established hospitality group is looking to open The Cafe Presented by Almost Home at the sprawling property.

As KRE wraps construction on the third tower of their Journal Squared complex, an application has been submitted to Jersey City’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to bring a liquor license to the property’s address at 595 Pavonia Avenue. The company hoping for the move is called Almost Home JC LLC.

Named as one of the owners of the company in paperwork submitted to Jersey City is Robert Doran, who is one of the co-founders of the Almost Home brand. The company already has a Jersey City presence on the ground floor of the Hudson House complex via a coffee cart that opened last spring.

Almost Home has other locations in mostly seaside spots like Lincroft, Navesink, Sea Bright, Belford, Highlands, and Oceanport. A location of the brand recently opened in Philadelphia’s Old City neighborhood.

The flagship Lincroft location specializes mostly in breakfast and lunch fare with early morning dishes like challah French toast complimented with an afternoon menu that includes a Shore hoagie with breaded chicken cutlet, a cheesesteak, or a diesel smash burger.

Almost Home has not responded to an inquiry Jersey Digs placed about the planned business in Journal Squared but some early details we received about the project indicate that it will be a café and lounge space with a lot of seating and co-working area. The liquor license at the property would be used for beer and wine service.

The license being sought for the restaurant is currently owned by an entity registered out of 515 Marin Boulevard, which is the headquarters of KRE.

Co-founder Robert Doran had mentioned to Hoboken Girl last year that the company was looking to open an outpost of their Almost Home General concept in Jersey City, and it appears their space has been found in Journal Squared.

The earliest the license transfer application could be heard by Jersey City’s Alcoholic Beverage Control Board would be during their October 14 meeting.
