As Jersey City’s building boom continues, some much-welcomed park space is now open to the public in one of Downtown’s more popular neighborhoods.
Marin Green is located directly behind the 485 Marin project from KRE Group, an 18-story development consisting of 397 apartments that, according to the company, are over 70% leased. The new park was designed by Melillo & Bauer Associates.
Marin Green spans more than an acre and includes a grassy lawn, a café-style seating area, and a children’s play section, plus a dog park. A ribbon cutting for the park was held back in September, where Mayor Fulop stressed the need for additional space for children to play and neighbors to meet as the city grows.
“We continue to strive to meet the needs of Jersey City’s neighborhoods by working with developers to offer various options for new and current residents as we look to improve communities with new amenities such as parks, retail space and affordable housing,” he said.
The new park should provide some relief for the nearby and increasingly crowded Hamilton Park, and more green space could be coming to the vicinity soon. A two-acre park is slated for a vacant lot on Coles Street between 16th and 18th Streets as part of the Emerson Radio Factory redevelopment, which was approved by the city’s planning board earlier this year.
