Last summer, Jersey Digs teased the opening of a new coffee shop in Jersey City, and we’re excited to report that Hidden Grounds is officially open in the Powerhouse Arts District. Located on the ground floor of The Art House building at 148 First Street, Hidden Grounds is now serving coffee as well as breads and cookies while they prepare for their official grand opening around the 20th of January.
The build-out, only seen as renderings last August, is somewhat industrial but inviting with plenty of seating. A cozy green couch sets the scene just inside the entrance and softens the concrete surround. The coffee bar runs nearly the whole length of the space, accented by white hexagonal tiles, and bench seating runs nearly the whole length of the opposite wall. Tables are available, too. And bright yellow chairs and fresh flowers make for a cheery cool space.
House-roasted coffees, delicate teas, and plenty of experimentation by the talented brewers and baristas behind the bar, add up to not your typical coffee shop. Stop in now to experience the full beverage menu and the full food menu will be available later this month. A steady rotation of regulars seems to be taking shape and there are plans in the works for community events and tastings.
Hidden Grounds Co-founder, Anand Patel, told Jersey Digs last summer that he and Co-founder Spoorthi Kumar were excited to expand the shop into Jersey City, falling hard for Chill Town and abandoning location ideas in Hoboken and Philadelphia. Just one more reason to stop in for a cup!
