The long wait for a new supermarket in the Journal Square neighborhood is almost over as the Brooklyn-based Food Story Natural Market is slated to launch their Jersey City outpost this week.
The supermarket was announced way back in January 2022 and specializes in organic products. The brand currently has four stores in Brooklyn and their upcoming Jersey City location will span nearly 10,000 square feet of space inside the second tower at KRE Group’s Journal Squared.
The market, which fronts Pavonia and Summit Avenues and is situated directly above the Journal Square Path Station, will be opening its doors on February 9. Food Story aims to provide an extensive offering of products including meats, fish, sushi, and fresh produce.
A variety of hot and cold foods all prepared onsite will also be featured at the market, which will additionally carry fresh flowers and plants.
The opening of Food Story should be welcome news for the area, as a C-Town located along Bergen Avenue is the neighborhood’s only large supermarket despite a plethora of construction and new developments popping up in recent years.
Food Story isn’t the only major grocer coming to Journal Square, however. The ground floor of the One Journal Square development is slated to house a Target store when construction on that endeavor wraps in 2026.
