A burger chain’s next location might be in the heart of Downtown Jersey City.
A firm doing business as Bareburger submitted an application to the Jersey City Board of Alcoholic Beverage Control seeking the transfer of a liquor license to 143 Newark Avenue, according to a public notice.
BB Jersey City, LLC is reportedly looking to utilize the plenary retail consumption license that has been held by Harborside Hospitality Corp., a company with ties to Mack-Cali.
Bareburger has not yet responded to a request for comment regarding the possible Jersey City franchise. The chain is based in Queens and already has North Jersey restaurants in Closter, Edgewater, Hoboken, Montclair, Morristown, Ridgewood, Westfield, and Woodcliff Lake.
The address in question is situated along the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Mall and contains a relatively new residential development called The Sophia. Plans were announced for an Asbury Ale House location and a rooftop restaurant on the premises more than two years ago, but the proposals have yet to come to fruition.
