Artichoke Basille’s Pizza will open in Hoboken in August at the corner of Hudson and First Streets, the owner confirmed in a published report.
The New York-based chain announced in late 2017 that they planned to open a number of New Jersey locations, including their first at 96 Hudson Street. The eatery replaces the former Jimmy John’s sandwich shop at that corner and is likely to take full advantage of foot traffic from the Hoboken train terminal four blocks away.
The chain offers unique pizza varieties, such as their namesake Artichoke Pie (artichoke hearts, cream sauce, spinach, mozzarella cheese, and pecorino cheese), crab pizza (crab sauce, mozzarella, surimi stuffing), the Staten Island (meatballs, cooked tomato sauce, red onions, and ricotta), and the Margherita (plum tomato, fresh basil, and a blend of cheeses).
Francis Garcia and Sal Basille opened the first shop in their chain in the East Village of Manhattan in 2008. They now have eleven shops in New York City, including in both airports.
The exterior will feature some of the same elements as the Manhattan locations, including the gooseneck lighting and tin ceilings. The company worked with Nastasi Architects of Hoboken and will preserve most of the existing building. The city’s Historical Preservation Committee approved changes on November 7, 2018.
The owner of the Hoboken location, Prem Shanghvi, told the Pascack Valley Daily Voice on Monday that he will open during the first two weeks of August.
