Life on Central Avenue is about to get a little sweeter as a Thai-style ice cream shop that’s been serving a unique product in Hoboken will be moving up the Palisades and opening a space of their own.
Angel’s Recipe Ice Cream & Crepes started in the Mile Square City back in late 2016. The sweet shop had been operating out of Gogi Grill’s space at 79 Hudson Street, complementing their Korean barbeque with “rolled” ice cream desserts that featured interesting combinations.
The shop specializes in Thai-style ice cream that’s created by pouring the treat’s liquid base on a freezing tray, and then “rolling” it by using a spatula. Angel’s Recipe Ice Cream is made with fully organic and non-GMO ingredients, and their selection of completely handmade ice cream ranges from green tea and coconut to more traditional flavors like strawberry and chocolate.
While the ice cream strives to be the best quality possible, it’s the toppings that shine through at Angel’s. Their French Toast combo includes a vanilla ice cream roll base plus graham cracker, cinnamon powder, and maple syrup. A combo dubbed Jake’s S’mores features milk chocolate ice cream with graham cracker, Reese’s, and toasted marshmallow.
A Matcha Libre option includes matcha green tea ice cream, while a vegan option called Cocomo Kokomo sports a coconut base and is infused with roasted almond and toasted coconut flakes. Angel’s also serves a few crepe options mostly of the dessert variety like the pear and brie version, an oreo Nutella, or berries ricotta.
Their Hoboken space officially closed for good on May 31 and Angel’s is in the process of moving into new digs at 312 Central Avenue. Their website will have online ordering upon their re-opening, which, according to an Instagram post under the handle @angelsrecipeicecream, should happen sometime soon. Additionally, the manager of Angel’s told Jersey Digs they are waiting on inspections and hope to open within the next few weeks.
