A health-conscious restaurant that has seen significant expansion since launching three years ago is looking to open a new outpost as Alfalfa is plotting their latest move in Downtown Hoboken.
Initially opening at 1110 Washington Street, Alfalfa took over the former Schnackenberg’s Luncheonette back in 2019. Their seasonally rotating salads, breakfast burritos, and gluten-free doughnuts quickly became a hit with locals.
A second outpost followed in Santa Monica, California and the company announced an expansion into Jersey City last year. While that spot has yet to open, Alfalfa has their sights set on the former Ma’s Gourmet Market space in Hoboken at 150 Newark Street.
The company is looking to convert the former market into a Class II restaurant and has submitted plans to revamp the space. The application is slated to be heard by the Subdivision and Site Plan Committee of Hoboken’s planning board during their January 17 meeting.
Alfalfa’s brand seeks to “inspire healthier communities through balanced food and joyful experiences” with a focus on high-quality, local products from vendors they can trust. If it all comes together, the Newark Street outpost will be the restaurant’s fourth location.
