Jersey City is getting its first table tennis club. The Wang Chen Table Tennis Club, named for its Olympian founder, opens Saturday, December 2 at 31 River Drive South, in Newport.
The 3,100-square-foot club offers training for players of every level, including professional coaches, competitive leagues, and after-school programs for children.
“The club will provide residents of all ages a fun and healthy outlet, and is an exciting addition to the city’s already-impressive selection of cultural and recreational activities,” said a Newport representative.
The first Wang Chen opened on Manhattan’s Upper West Side in 2004 and there is another in Westwood. As for 43-year-old Wang Chen, she was born in China, moved to the United States in 2000, and competed for the U.S. at the 2008 summer Olympics in Beijing.
The new club is located right around the corner from the PATH train and the light rail.
