A sweet shop born in New York City has launched their second Garden State outpost in Jersey City as Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is open for business along a prominent Downtown stretch.

Jersey Digs reported last year on the imminent arrival of the brand at 347 Grove Street. The company was first founded in New York City as a food truck in 2008 by brothers Pete and Ben Van Leeuwen with Laura O’Neil with the mission statement of “make good ice cream that makes you feel good.”

The flavors at Van Leeuwen pack a unique punch, with options like peanut butter brownie honeycomb or a buttermilk berry cornbread adorning the menu. The company even developed a flavor as a homage to the “Glass Onion” movie, a French-style ice cream.

Van Leeuwen is also known for their extensive vegan selection of ice creams that utilize coconuts, cashews and oats for their base, with flavors that include a churros and fudge or a brown sugar chunk.

The Jersey City spin on Van Leeuwen Ice Cream is now open from 11 a.m. until midnight daily, staying open for late night treats on Friday and Saturday nights until 1 a.m. The Grove Street location is the second New Jersey spot for the brand following the initial foray inside the American Dream Mall in East Rutherford.
