JERSEY CITY, NJ: Gary Lichtenstein Editions presents a radical evening of art at the edge with painter Keith Kimmel on Thursday evening, July 21st from 6:30pm – 8:30pm. The event is titled “The CO-Lab Experience,” a live interactive performance situated within an exhibition of the artist’s recent and retrospective works. In the CO-Lab Experience, Keith Kimmel will break thru the classic wall of separation between artist and spectator by inviting the public to actively participate in an evening of collaborative painting.
Before starting the collaborative experiment, Kimmel will give a brief talk about his influences and instinctive approach to painting, after which he will finish live a large half-completed canvas, while guests are invited to finish their own smaller derivative pieces that have been prepared half-completed by Kimmel. The end result is that each guest will have the opportunity to co-create a piece that they can take home.
The evening will include summertime hors d’oeuvres prepared by Latham House, a brand new downtown Jersey City restaurant run by the husband-wife team of Chef Daniel Latham and Kris Yettra, who have 30+ years of combined experience. Kimmel’s exhibited work spans a decade, showing his diverse style and expressive use of color, conveying a sense of splendor and richness that is immediately felt. The most recent pieces come out of two series of silkscreen prints created in collaboration with master screen printer, Gary Lichtenstein. The series are based on earlier paintings, Paternal Romance (2006) and Jazz City Persuasion (2011). Images on display range from abstract expressions of human and animal forms, city and landscapes to dream-like visions that incorporate whispered brushstrokes and geometric forms. About Keith Kimmel
Keith Kimmel was raised in North Miami Beach, Florida and received a bachelor’s degree in English and associate degree in Digital Media. In 2005 he turned to painting, having some immediate success in Fort Collins, CO where he was working for the Rocky Mountain Bullhorn publication. Since then he has worked full time as an artist in Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, Asheville, NC and most recently in Jersey City, NJ and Bushwick, Brooklyn.
