In recent years neighborhoods in the Jersey City’s Ward B has largely escaped the upward development trend, until now. Details have been released regarding a proposed residential development in the West Side area.

Increased development is coming around the West Campus of New Jersey City University (NJCU) in Jersey City. Two four-story buildings are planned at 13 Carbon Place and 35 Carbon Place and another is planned for 33 University Place Blvd in the NJCU West Campus Redevelopment Area.

Part of a mammoth industrial complex on West Side Ave in Jersey City could soon be home to hundreds of residents. A developer has applied to the Jersey City Zoning Board of Adjustment for approval to convert an existing warehouse into a two-story residential building.

In 1997, the last light rail station in Jersey City was finished on West Side Avenue. Since then, the city has added more than 30,000 residents and development has expanded further west. To help accommodate this growth, the county has commissioned a study to better understand the costs of expanding the light rail to Route 440.

Urban Edge Properties announced yesterday that it has entered into a $43.7 million contract to purchase Hudson Mall in Jersey City. The property, located on Route 440, spans 383,000 square feet and contains anchor tenants Marshalls, Toys "R" Us, Staples, and Old Navy.
