A quickly growing café company is expanding into Jersey City’s Newport neighborhood as Roast’d Coffee is slated to take over space long home to a community favorite.
Described by the company as “your neighborhood roastery,” Roast’d Coffee will be opening inside space at 10 River Drive South. The business will be taking the place of the former Babo Tea House and Gelateria, which Patch reported as closed last year after over two decades in the community.
Roast’d Coffee focuses on single origin coffees and small batches. Among the café’s specialties are barrel-aged coffee, which is brewed from raw beans and stored in a cask for six months before roasting. The café is also set to feature baked goods like an espresso chocolate brownie among other treats.
The brand started in the Garden State and has several other locations in Hasbrouck Heights, Fort Lee, and Franklin Lakes. Roast’d Coffee opened their first New York spot in the Rockland County town of Nanuet late last year. Their Jersey City spot will be their first in Hudson County.
While an opening date for the Jersey City location of Roast’d Coffee has not been announced, temporary signage is already handing in the window at the property. The company can be followed on Instagram at the handle @roastd.coffee for future updates.
