An ongoing renovation project along Hoboken’s main drag hasn’t wrapped yet but already has a tenant in place, as one of the more prominent stationery and crafts stores is opening in the Mile Square City.

Chicago-based Paper Source is officially coming to 501 Washington Street. The corner property has been undergoing a revamp and expansion since late last year that was designed by Urban Design Workshop Architecture. In addition to adding a floor to the building, a storefront space on the street level is being expanded and will total 1,250 square feet when completed.

That space will be where Paper Source is setting up shop. The company already has a page on their website dedicated to their Hoboken outpost, and signage for the retailer was approved at the Hoboken Historic Preservation Commission’s April 1 meeting.

Paper Source has 129 stores nationwide including three in Manhattan, while their New Jersey outposts so far include Marlton, Summit, and Princeton. The outlet focuses on personalized stationery, fine papers, custom invitations for announcements, distinctive gifts, and quirky greeting cards. Their inventory also includes paper craft kits and the store hosts various classes and workshops that encourage customers to live by their company motto of “Do Something Creative Every Day.”

The renovation at 501 Washington Street is moving along briskly, as the backward expansion of the project is complete. Paper Source has not yet announced any timeline for the opening of their Hoboken store, but late 2019 seems like a safe bet.
