The world’s largest tea business, Ekaterra Tea, the parent company of the more familiarly known LIPTON Teas and Infusions, has unveiled fancy new digs in Hoboken. Their 15,000-square-foot office space in Waterfront Corporate Center II at 121 River Street was built by SJP Project Solutions, the third-party development management arm of SJP Properties.
Ekaterra picked SJP to execute a custom full-floor footprint designed to reflect the broad array of brands under the LIPTON Teas and Infusions umbrella, which include Lipton, Pukka, TAZO, T2 and PG Tips.
The company is the most recent of several high-profile tenants to occupy Waterfront Corporate Center, a 1.5 million-square-foot office and retail development at the heart of Hoboken’s master-planned waterfront. The building is steps away from Hoboken’s primary commercial corridor along Washington Street and mass transit at Hoboken Terminal linking it to both the NJ suburbs and New York City.
“121 River Street is the choice of several leading brands for the allure Hoboken has as a walkable, safe, transit-oriented location,” said Alexander Erdos, SVP – Leasing & Development at SJP Properties. “We are proud that LIPTON selected us to build out their full floor with a bespoke branded design. Maintaining our buildings with state-of-the-art custom buildouts and pristine public spaces enables our office assets to remain the most sought-after Class A properties in the region.”
This marks a return of sorts for LIPTON, which once boasted a plant on the northeastern corner of Hoboken’s waterfront at 1500 Hudson Street. Built in 1919, the factory thrived for more than forty years before closing in the mid 1960’s. The building was repurposed in the 1990’s and transformed into luxury apartments and ground floor commercial spaces. Today the Hudson Tea Buildings are one of Hoboken’s most-desired residences.
