Lidl stores are becoming a common sight in suburban New Jersey as the discount German grocery chain continues its American expansion. Now, another Lidl location could be coming to Middlesex County.
East Brunswick’s planning and zoning officer gave a written determination to Lidl U.S. Operations, LLC indicating that operating a retail grocery store would be a permitted use at 651 Route 18, according to a public notice.
The address in question is located along the southbound side of Route 18 near Arthur Street and was previously home to an Unclaimed Freight location.
A Lidl spokesperson told Jersey Digs that “it is too early to share specific details on this site” while East Brunswick’s planning and engineering director said that the municipal government “had a brief discussion with Lidl” regarding the Route 18 corridor, but that an application has not been submitted at this time.
Lidl opened its first location in this part of Middlesex County last year in North Brunswick.
