A grassroots organization celebrating its 25th year will honor several recent preservation projects around Jersey City during a celebratory night in a historic venue.
The Jersey City Landmarks Conservancy is set to host their annual Preservation Awards Gala on Thursday, September 12. Tickets for the event, which will be held in the Barrow Mansion at 83 Wayne Street, can be purchased through Eventbrite.
The three-hour gala, which begins at 6:30 p.m., will include light bites, drinks, and live music. Hospitality sponsors for the event include Whealth Kitchen, 902 Brewing Company, Flowers & Favors, The Archer, and Super Buy Rite Jersey City.
The evening will include a 25th Anniversary Presentation, an awards ceremony and a silent auction, the funds of which will support the conservancy’s ongoing efforts. The group expanded their programming over the last year to include a History Happened Here Children’s Tour, a Decorative Arts Restoration Tour of Grace Van Vorst Church, and a panel discussion about balancing growth and preservation that was attended by Jersey City residents and elected officials.
Among the properties to be honored by the conservancy are Lafayette House at 328 Pacific Avenue, which converted and preserved a 19th-century Gothic Revival church into residences.
The restoration of an 1860s row house at 251 Second Street will also get its due, while the group’s Preservation Initiative Award will go to the family and friends of Venus Pellagatti Xtravaganza, a pioneering transgender activist whose family home at 343.5 Eighth Street was recently granted landmark status.
Other sponsors for the event include Ironstate, Silverman, Matsikoudis & Fanciullo, Minervini Vandermark Melia Kelly Architecture & Design, KRE – Kushner Real Estate Group, OD Development, Vreeland Projects, Hudson County’s Office of Cultural & Heritage Affairs and Tourism Development, the Jersey City Free Public Library, Guarini Plumbing, Friends of the Loew’s, and The Skolar Group – Liberty Realty.
