The New York-based Mediterranean restaurant has announced it will open its first location in New Jersey on November 12. The restaurant chain operates in NYC and Connecticut and has elected to debut its first franchise in the township of Holmdel.
The first Hummus & Pita Co. in the state will be located at Bell Works, 101 Crawfords Corner Road. The restaurant will join the Holmdel Public Library, Honeybell Bakery, and Broadfork, to name a few, at Bell Works.
Hummus & Pita Co. said it intends to sell at least 100 franchise licenses in 2018, with Florida, Tennessee, Texas, and California being the primary markets. The falafel franchise said it also intends to expand to Troy, Warren, and Canton, Ohio, as well as Detroit and Ann Arbor, Michigan.
“Drawing on inspiration from their mixed background (Greek, Turkish, Israeli-American), [Co-Founders Dave Pesso and Janice Axelrod] developed the company utilizing Janice’s career experience building mega mortgage bank, Berkshire Financial,” the chain said in a news release.
Earlier this year, Somerset Development, the current redeveloper of the former Bell Labs complex, announced its intent to develop a 200-room hotel atop the complex. A portion of the 473-acre campus was purchased and developed by Toll Brothers into a 40-home community — Reserve at Holmdel.
