A fast-casual restaurant that has been growing at a rapid clip since opening less than five years ago will be bringing its newest location to the Mile Square City later this year.

Earlier this month, Hoboken Girl reported that Frankie + Ava’s at 208 Washington Street made the decision to close its doors in the coming months. While the family-owned Italian eatery may move to a new location, a rising company named Tacoria recently confirmed on its Instagram account that it will be moving into the space.

The restaurant was started by several Rutgers alumni and the group didn’t venture far when opening their first location in New Brunswick back in 2016. Outposts in Montclair, Princeton, and Morristown followed before their first Hudson County location in Downtown Jersey City opened in 2019. Their latest restaurant launched in Paramus along Route 17 late last year.

The eatery claims to be “inspired by the streets of Mexico City and taco trucks in San Diego” and uses farm-raised meat for its handcrafted eats. Tacoria strives for freshness and does not have any freezers at its restaurants, which serve highly customizable tacos, nachos, mission-style burritos, salads, and quesadillas.

Patrons can choose from proteins like spicy pulled chicken, fried avocado, al pastor pork, chorizo, roasted corn, carne asada, or brussels sprouts when creating their items and Tacoria’s menu includes a few completely vegan and gluten-free options. Side dishes like chips and guacamole, a small kid’s menu, and even a dessert of Nutella nachos round out the experience.

Tacoria’s Hoboken outlet will be its seventh in New Jersey and its latest expansion certainly makes them one of the state’s fastest-growing restaurant groups. An opening date for the Washington Street space has not been formally announced, but all indicators point to the restaurant being up and running sometime this summer.
