A flood of applications from last year looking to open recreational cannabis dispensaries in Jersey City is finally leading to new businesses opening, with the latest being Garden Greenz along Newark Avenue.

Jersey City’s third recreational dispensary to open is situated at 190 Newark Avenue inside the former home of Jemma Loan, who were known locally for their colorful window signs. The new business is owned by Brian Markey, who was raised in the city’s Greenville neighborhood.

Garden Greenz says that “quality is at the heart of everything we do.” The dispensary claims to source “the finest cannabis strains and carefully extract their essence to create our premium vape cartridges and topicals.”

The store offers a variety of flowers, pre-rolls, vaporizers, concentrates, and edibles for purchase for those 21 and over. Customers can order via kiosks or shop their products online via the company’s website.

The dispensary is located on the prominent corner of Jersey Avenue along the Newark Avenue Pedestrian Plaza. Garden Greenz marks the third recreational cannabis dispensary to open in Jersey City following two spots, Ript Dispensary and Flwr, that opened earlier this fall.

There are a ton of other dispensaries in the works for Jersey City and the race is still on to open the city’s first consumption lounge. A facility called Cream Dispensary includes that feature and is planned for the former Hard Grove Café spot on First Street.

Other cannabis lounges approved in Jersey City include The Other Side in The Heights and Medusa in McGinley Square, although that facility is subject to a legal challenge from St. Peter’s University.
