Curbed has hopped the river to cover a renovation project at Waldo Lofts in the Powerhouse Arts District. The piece chronicles Regina and Billy Mariano’s move from the Upper West Side to Jersey City. After buying at Waldo Lofts in 2009 when the market dipped, the couple saw an opportunity. By using the money saved, they could create the exact space they wanted.

The duplex loft took about three years to complete due in part to the couple needing to figure out what exactly they wanted, as well as a disappearing contractor. In the end, they reconfigured the space to better suit their lifestyle. As Curbed explains it, “They expanded the size of the kitchen, turning what would have functioned as an office or third bedroom into an enormous pantry; they made the master bedroom bigger, and transformed the master bath; and even tore out and replaced the staircase in the living room.”
