The building boom in Journal Square is starting to be complemented by a new round of eateries, and a new entry that has relocated to Jersey City from Brooklyn has officially opened its doors.
A fresh Thai restaurant called Bay Rice & Noodle has launched inside a storefront at 382 Summit Avenue at the road’s intersection with Newkirk Street. Formerly home to Hunan House and situated across the street from Jersey City Municipal Court, the business had previously operated out of New York City’s Bay Ridge neighborhood.
The name comes from the restaurant’s slogan, “Keep the Hungry at Bay.” They operated on 3rd Avenue in Brooklyn since 2014 before moving to Jersey City, where, due to their smaller space, they are focused on a take-out and delivery model.
Locals shouldn’t be fooled by their modest digs, however. While the menu at Bay Rice & Noodle is still rolling out, early highlights include their Hat Yai Fried Chicken with Thai herb and spice served with sweet chili sauce & shallot.
Pad Thai and their spin on Drunken Noodles also appear on the menu, as do a few Indian-inspired curries. Their fried tofu dish, a favorite from their Brooklyn location, has also made the jump to the Garden State.
Bay Rice & Noodle doesn’t have any Jersey City social media presence just yet, but online ordering is available through GrubHub. The restaurant can also be contacted for orders at (646) 299-6054.
Bay is now open daily from 11:30 a.m. until 10:30 p.m. The restaurant is surely hoping to capitalize on its short walking distance from several major developments, including a pair of towers at 425 Summit Avenue and 413 Summit Avenue, that have popped up in recent years.
