Residents of the Mile Square City looking for a centrally located place to buy alcohol officially have a new option inside of a major grocery store.
Earlier this month, the Acme outpost at 614 Clinton Street quietly began selling wine, beer, and spirits. The move follows Hoboken’s Alcoholic Beverage Control approving a liquor license transfer that Acme requested during their August 12 meeting.
The grocer’s new liquor department is located to the left of the market’s entrance, and all booze sales must be made at a separate register from the main checkout area. The store’s latest stock includes a wide range of wines and a variety of beer from major brands like Budweiser and Coors to smaller craft brewery selections.
A liquor section was up and running at the property when the space was home to an A&P supermarket before the company went bankrupt in 2015. The liquor license associated with the A&P was apparently sold to Acme when they purchased the store, but the company chose to “pocket” the license and leave it inactive before they brought it back last month.
The hours of operation at Acme’s liquor department span from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sundays.
