Anthony Moran and Doug Camberis, both principals at Nice Pass Productions, have embarked on a quest to document local restaurateurs, culinary artists and mom-and-pop shops in Hoboken and Jersey City. This ambitious series is called Day Job, an in-depth look at the stories of notable locals dedicated to their crafts. Anthony directed and edited the piece and Doug was the director of photography.
The first episode of Day Job showcases Tony Rodriguez from Scale Fish Market in Jersey City.
“Do what you love” can often be a misguided mantra of career advice, but Antonio “Tony” Rodriguez felt he had no choice. After a decade of working for his father he quit his day job and opened Scale Fish Market in 2021 as a pop-up serving in farmers markets around Jersey City. When customers began lining up whenever he set up shop in Van Vorst, Hamilton or Lincoln Park, he knew he was onto something.
“It was about time to get a bigger boat,” quipped Tony.
In early 2022 he and his wife Geovanna unveiled the Scale Fish Market storefront at 45 Coles Street in Harsimus Cove just off Newark Avenue in Jersey City. They pride themselves on the freshest local fish and seafood expertly prepared. Their seasonal menu has locals coming back for more.
The following video tells Tony’s wonderful story in just a few short minutes. Hear from the owner, chef and fishmonger as he shares the love and joy he puts into his Day Job.
