A seafood purveyor that has been a staple at Jersey City farmer’s markets over the last year has opened their first brick and mortar space.

Late last month, Scale Fish Market launched their storefront at 45 Coles Street in the former Cochie’s Restaurant space. The business was started by JC local Antonio Rodriguez, who has worked in the seafood industry and local kitchens for several years while completing culinary school.

The newly opened market sources their products from Fulton Fish Market and sells a variety of fresh seafood. Fish, caviar, many types of shellfish, sea urchin, and more are available for purchase and the company offers catering through their website that provides options like seafood towers, steamed crab legs, lobsters, or raw bars that include oyster varieties from Blue Point to Cape May.

The market also offers a range of quick lunch items courtesy of chef Rodriguez that can be ordered in advance. Creations like a Thai crab cake, salmon burger, or lobster rolls are alongside more elaborate fare that includes Cajun crawfish, lobster bisque, and conche salad.

Scale Fish Market is now open Wednesday through Friday from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. and will still be setting up show at the nearby Van Vorst Park Farmers Market every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The business will be expanding their presence to other local markets when the weather warms, with Wednesday hours at the Hamilton Park market from 4 p.m. to 7:00 and Sundays at Lincoln Park’s market from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
