There is a new place to shop for food and drinks in Jersey City. Sprout Market Place held a grand opening on March 10th for its new location on the first floor of the 70 Columbus development in Downtown Jersey City, near the Grove Street PATH. The business includes a large selection of hot foods, including pancakes, burgers, sandwiches, omelets, burritos, and paninis, in addition to a salad bar, a stir-fry bar, a liquor section, and traditional supermarket products.
Not far from the Hudson River waterfront, an international California-based self-storage chain is opening its largest location in the United States. A grand opening celebration will be held on Saturday, March 25th for the new Public Storage location at 133 2nd Street, according to a statement from the company. A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 10:00 am, according to the statement, and free cake will be served to attendees. The business, which is Public Storage’s second Hudson County location after Hoboken, features 3,978 units in a century-old building that was previously vacant. Cityside Archives and the Merchants Refrigeration Company once occupied the space.
Last December, Jersey Digs first reported that that El Cocotero, a restaurant located in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood that specializes in ‘authentic home style Venezuelan cuisine,’ was planning to open an outpost at 749 Bergen Avenue in Jersey City’s McGinley Square neighborhood. Now, Jersey City’s first Venezuelan restaurant is open for business. A soft opening was held at the end of February. The space was previously occupied by Restaurante Delicias de Puerto Rico, Pho Thang Long Vietnamese Restaurant, and Surf and Turf.
Just around the corner from the new El Cocotero, a new bike shop is coming to McGinley Square. The Jersey City Bicycle Company will open at 687 Montgomery Street, at the corner of Orchard Street, near the Jersey City Armory. According to the company website, the business, which describes itself as “a friendly neighborhood service focused store specializing in used and new bicycles and accessories,” is expected to open this spring. The space was previously occupied by the Pretty Nails Nail Salon.
A new cafe is coming to The Heights neighborhood of Jersey City. The Cliff will open at 38 Congress Street, near the 9th Street Station on the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail. According to The Cliff’s website, the business, which will serve breakfast and lunch, will be “a neighborhood cafe serving killer coffee alongside wholesome and delicious foods” that will offer outdoor seating.
Lastly, Jersey City will soon be home to a new CrossFit studio. 150 Bay CrossFit is coming to 150 Bay Street, a former industrial building in the Powerhouse Arts District that has since been converted into a mixed-use development with retail space and apartments. The business website states the 4,000 square foot space will open this summer, and will be owned by personal trainer Andre Crews.
