A new dining experience from an East Village-based hospitality group is gearing up to launch their first Garden State endeavor with a Hoboken restaurant called Dear Maud.
Jersey Digs broke the news last spring about a transformation slated for space at 205 First Street. Home to a variety of bars that never really stuck over the years, the address was the subject of a liquor license transfer to an entity called Host Restaurants.
The ownership group is behind several establishments around New York City including Jackdaw at 213 Second Avenue. The eatery is inspired by stories from Irish poet W. B. Yeats that are collectively called The Jackdaw, a bird commonly found in the Irish isles.
The company will be continuing the literary inspiration trend as they cross the Hudson River, as their Hoboken restaurant is slated to be called Dear Maud. Signage announcing the name just went up at the property and the restaurant has created an initial Instagram account at the handle @dearmaudnj.
While Dear Maud has not yet released a menu, a heavy lean on Irish influence seems likely. The group’s Jackdaw restaurant features plates like an Irish bacon “toastie” with Dubliner cheddar, a chicken gyro, or a prosciutto pesto sandwich. A weekend brunch menu is also featured.
The renovation at the Hoboken space has been underway for several months and the addition of Dear Maud looks like it will be a nice addition to a First Street scene sometimes dragged for being too nightlife centric. Despite the progress, a timeline for the restaurant’s opening has not been announced.
