A new ground-up residential apartment project has been unanimously approved by the Union Township Planning Board. The property will be located at 1255 Magie Avenue, a site that for years has been known as the Schaefer Salt Factory property.
The project will consist of 153 units, 23 of which will be designated as affordable, including 51 one-bedroom, 97 two-bedroom, and five three-bedroom apartments.
The complex will offer a number of amenities, including an in-ground pool, a fireside lounge, and a meditation room complete with a Himalayan salt wall. In addition, the property will also include a fitness center, an on-demand yoga and spin studio, and a multi-sport simulator and game room. There will also be a children’s playroom, a private co-working space, and an automated mail package room complete with refrigerated lockers.
The project was announced by RMS Companies, a multi-family residential and boutique hotel development firm based out of Stamford, Connecticut. RMS acquired the property in 2019 after it had been vacant for some time.
The Magie Avenue apartment project marks RMS Companies’ first venture into the New Jersey market. The privately-owned firm is also developing roughly 1,500 residential units across the Metro New York and Connecticut area.
