A new resource center will be coming to Jersey City’s Ward A. The facility is planned for 405-407 Ocean Avenue, between Armstrong Avenue and Woodlawn Avenue, in the city’s Greenville neighborhood. According to records from the Jersey City Redevelopment Agency (JCRA), the “state of the art” center for the community will be developed by Uneeek Inspiration.
The JCRA Board of Commissioners conditionally designated Uneeek Inspiration as the redeveloper of the property during its meeting on June 20th. All present members voted in favor of the designation. The plans call for rehabilitating the first floor of the existing building, which is located within the Ocean-Bayview Redevelopment Area, into the new space.
Uneeek Inspiration, which is a non-profit organization, has been operating in Jersey City’s neighborhoods for the past several years. The goal of the group is “to inspire our people to reach their goals,” and according to Jersey City Fashion Week, “it gives hope to children of parents who are incarcerated.” Uneeek Inspiration’s volunteers have hosted events such as a summer program for children, ‘Soup for the Hungry’ to distribute free meals to residents in need across the city, and a food, toy, and clothing drive during the winter holiday season.
The building at the property is three stories tall and is currently owned by the JCRA. Over the years, it has contained space for Uneeek Inspiration, the Uneeek Success Style business, and Shmoke City. The upper floors were slated to be converted into four affordable housing units back in 2014, according to City records.
